Turkey Time

I am almost ready for Thanksgiving Day at my house, it will be a late Thanksgiving dinner since I get off work at 4:30 pm. However it will still be delicious.

I worked on setting my table last night after work and cleaned my silver turkey dome and large tray it sets on. The serving tray was a trophy for some horse show, it has an engraving on tray and I seen it last night for the first time and I have had this tray for years, I like it because it has the handles on the ends and feet on the bottom

.
Also this year instead of using a table cloth I purchased this paper with leaves and acorns on it and using it for a table runner on the table and my counter. I set my huge velvet pumpkin in middle of table till we put dinner on the table

Used my green glasses I got at Tuesday Morning once, I usually use clear crystal glasses but wanted some color with any brown and white transfer plates

Since I don't have enough large turkey plates I fill in with my brown and white transfer ship plates

My dome is so shinny clean you can see me taking the picture. When I was much younger I remember older friends and family saying they quit using their silver because it was to hard to clean, I understand that is why usually just one piece at a time is clean at my house .

I hope everyone including our homeless have a good meal someplace this Thanksgiving . I just have a few of the colored luncheon plates

Happy Thanksgiving to you all

Happy Birthday

Well it's time to celebrate another Happy Birthday to me. I had such a great fun day with my local buddies . Karen who is a Tasha Tudor fan had lunch for me and some more of our friends at her charming wonderful house.

It was a Downton Abbey luncheon minus the head butler LOL We had a beautiful table setting all the china, silver and of course hot tea was served.

My daughter Terra, Karen, Bernideen Jo, Me and Gina was there and Karen's two large cats

We toured her wonderful house after lunch and looked in and under all her cabinets at all the fabulous china and dishes she has collected through the years. Also looked through several books about Tasha Tudor Karen has

Then of course here was presents for me !!! yeah Look at this adorable Tea Cozy Bernideen made me . You hardly see my Burleigh calico tea pot however it's there

of course lots presents

I got truffles for my Mackenzie Childs recipe box that I said I would use for candy or jewelry not recipes

I got grocery's  LOL yum

I got this Downton Abbey clip board Bernideen made and added my Louis Vuitton luggage to the Down Abbey scene . Matching pencil box or utensil box ?

New Love

Once again I have fallen in love with another kitchen item. I have seen this black and white MacKenzie checked items for a few years however I always bought blue and white china for my kitchen. Now I have the bug for these items.
I was surfing through TV channels one evening and run across Evine and the MacKenzie Child items. It was just overwhelming to see so much of course I wanted it all. I knew I would use the Teapot so after seeing it two different days I ordered it

I ordered what they call a recipe box however I will use it for a different use in different rooms in my house. What about putting some chocolate truffles in it ?  I thought also I could put it on my dresser and put some bracelets in it. It's a good size not like the small recipe boxes from the 1970's

I set the teapot on my Burleigh cake plate to see how the blue and white and black and white will blend together in my messy kitchen.

I hate to use it now. The bottom is white and my glass top stove needs cleaned so will do a good cleaning before I use it ,I don't want the bottom of the white teapot dirty after using it,right? I got the large size also.

LOVE IT

I bought some material at Joann's to make me a plaid tablecloth black and white with a red thread run through it, now I need an apron ,don't you think? since I spend lots time in my kitchen

Tell me not to buy anything else to match the teapot and recipe box in Mackenzie Child's pattern LOL

because it cost so much I'm sure this will be my entire collection.

I'm going to a luncheon / tea party Saturday and I want to take these along for show and tell LOL
Then I'm going to visit some old friends who are dear and near to my heart

Charles Dana Gibson

Years ago I purchased this book at a local book store while shopping for another book. Soon as I flipped through it I knew I wanted it and the gorgeous Gibson Girls drawings in it by Charles Dana Gibson. I bought this back in 1977 and the book was published in 1969.

This is an office girl hard at work before our sweet computers came about. I just love the pencil drawings he captured of life back then, especially the clothing of the Victorian era

This bride doesn't look very happy however.

Here I am with a friend talking about the unhappy bride ? What do you think they were talking about ? I think it's just amazing how any person can just set down and draw something such as these drawings. I can only draw a straight line with a ruler

Love the hair doo's , reminds me of my beehive hair do in the early 1960's ? don't you think so also?    well I need to get ready for work so must get going

Also while I was doing laundry I set at my creating table in my studio and made a few little Christmas creations I'll show you later after the glue all drys. Nothing great just plain fun.

Sweet Saturday

It was so nice to stay home today and play with my blue and white dishes and get some cleaning done also. I also have enjoyed going shopping and visiting family but a gal needs her alone time sometimes?

I really like the pattern on these cups and saucers, I picked them up in a resale shop . I can't resist blue and white china or transferware.

I just love all these books and enjoy looking through them over and over. I took several breaks today and looked through all these books

I'm going to join PINK Saturday

Me and Paula Deen Today

Hey ya 'all Paula Deen came to town, Columbia Missouri and I had to go out after work to Barnes and Noble bookstore  and stand in line almost 2 hours to get up to her

She was signing a picture of me in front of her 1st Lady and Sons restaurant in Savannah Georgia back in 1998 when I first met her, not even knowing who she was. Really she wasn't popular yet.

Paula is promoting her newest cookbook. It was a fun event

Velvet Pumpkin Time

Well guess it is officially fall now so I will set out my sweet velvet pumpkins named Hot Skwash. Have you seen these at different decorating shops ? and here in Columbia they are at Kent's florist I know for sure.
I got mine at an estate sale for much less than originally priced. I love them and set them out year around in the studio .

Yesterday I had lunch at Wanna Be Victoria house , Gina that is. Her house was decorated so cute with all her fall items like leaves and pumpkins. Her house is the decorated like  an authentic old Victoria home, furniture dishes accessories which are beautiful. Bernideen was there and Karen from a small town close to Columbia, I don't think Karen has a blog? I need to ask.

Look at he the tiny pumpkin sitting beside the quarter. Some in the florist are covered in crystals for $300-400 each !!! ouch. Should I cut the name tags off the pumpkins? I like seeing the name myself?

LOVE THEM LOL

Well I'm going looking around some blogs which I really miss now that i'm a working gal again. course I always was a working gal just had a great job previously and could blog all day. Not now.

Enjoy today.

Oh and please say a prayer for a friend Nancy who lives on the island Vieques off  Puerto Rico . The hurricane hit hard and I haven't heard anything from her since last Tuesday at 2:29 when she sent pictures of the shelter she was going to, a high school gym on her island.

My Crops and Janis Joplin

Happy Sunday

I am glad to be home today.I have been clearing out my 2 flowers beds as the flowers and elephant ears start sagging to the ground. I cut down my 14 foot tall sunflowers. The biggest sunflower I grew this year is 14 inches across then 12 inches and 8 inches. They were so heavy the stems were almost bent completely over. The biggest one has my sunglasses on it for comparision size.

Here I am standing in front of my giant elephant ears which my grandsons loves because they are so big

I am hoping to get in the studio this afternoon and finish a project, one of many sitting around. I love being in the studio with my pretties and rhinestones etc.

Yesterday I went to Arrow Rock Missouri to the Lyceum Theatre to see the production of BeeHive , It was 6 girls singing songs from the 1960's . All that was there was a bunch of old people like me that was a teeager in the 1960's haha. It was lots fun and I sang all the songs and screamed and hollered haha right along with others. The men liked the Janis Joplin personation the best, they was yelling and clapping when the girl sang Cry. Then she sang Piece of My Heart
The singers were all excellent however she was most authentic.

Well better get busy, I miss joining in on the weekly parties. I'm still hanging in at my new job

White Plates

Hi

I am still plugging away at my 40 hour a week job at my ripe ole age. Making money for a new Mercedes or a 2nd house on an island LOL

I called a friend this morning and we got to talking dishes imagine that anyway we was talking about collecting odd white lunch and dinner plates. So I got to looking in cabinets and drawers for what white plates I still have.

My Favorite are these 8 inch lunch plates that remind me of the majolica green cabbage dishes

Then I found 12 of these small pie plates in a resale shop once for 50 cents apiece I just had to bring them home and have never had 12 people over for a piece of pie yet. They look as they never was used

This stack of  Ralph Lauren plates I found at Dillards on a clearance table in the pattern whipstitch

I had to show some lace today also since I was looking for a lace tablecloth in mt stack,I want to make a large oversize top out of. Pictured these are just lace collars I have on a mannequin in the studio . I'm in the mood to sew and since I am also off Monday for the holiday maybe I can get my sewing table at least cleaned off to get started on my project

It's Time To Tell You

It's time I tell you all I am going back to work 40 hours a week !!!!so won't be blogging much. Not as much as I would like to anyway.

I got laid off from my part time job I have had the last 10 years. Job reduction at the University of Missouri, maybe you have seen this on the news, I think 412 people have lost their jobs here in Columbia Missouri so far.
I was lucky enough to get another position at University Hospital here in Columbia . I do my orientation tomorrow . Going from 24 hours a week to 40 hours a week will definitely cutting into my play time

At my previous job I could be on the the computer all day as long as I answered the phone when a call came in.I was very good at overlapping for you that are familiar with the work phrase

This will be hard working 5 days a week after not doing that since 2002 !!!!

I'll be checking in time to time, keep blogging

Summer Wreath

Here is my newest summer wreath made by Bernideen at Bernideen Tea Time Cottage . At my yard sale this last Friday Bernideen and her husband stopped by and she noticed my huge now turned summer green my white big some people call them snowballs however they are a type of hydrangeas.

Anyway she said cut me some and I will make your a wreath if you want one, well of course I wanted one

Oh and she made it just overnight,I talked with her Saturday and she said bring me one more extra large bloom and i can finish your wreath. I  went right out and cut one and went over and watched her cut this huge bloom and hot glue it on a natural grapevine wreath.

I just love the color and how she made it

Here is the artist Bernideen in pink  and me in her tea room and art room

She has really been a treasure to meet and keep me inspired to keep working with treasures creating works of art

Vintage Flatware

On my last trip to Hyde Park New York my friends and I took a tour to the Culinary Institute of America and had a wonderful lunch there.
Out on the grounds was a wonderful fish statue and from a distance was just a fish. However when you got up close to it wow it was made out of old silverware really amazing to me

It is 12 foot long sturgeon made out of 700 knives 400 forks and 600 spoons took the artist 300 hours to complete. Eyes were made out of glass. I couldn't get a complete picture with my iphone. This is one of the fins pictured below
It was very impressive and fun to see named Old Diamondsides by John F Sendelbach
Wonder how he accumulated all the vintage flatware? maybe went to lots flea markets?

It was quite the place to visit , I went with my friends from Long Island Terry and Loriene

It is so hot here that I am just coming home from work and staying inside, I have been watering my flowers either after sundown or 6 am. I am planning a nice relaxing weekend inside maybe eating a quart of ice cream LOL
